Today Donald Trump became President of the Unite States of America. I never ever thought i'd have to type that sentence.
I have been so cross all day, it's really niggled at my brain. I haven't even been particularly grown up about it, someone asked me what I thought of Trump I called him a "fake tanned, toupee wearing twat face". Not very mature of me I know, but I feel that can wait until tomorrow. Right now I want to be cross and petulant and a little bit rude. Luckily Hillary Clinton is a much nicer person than me.
I've just listened to her speech, she thanked everyone, spread messages of love to everyone. She didn't falter, she didn't have a catch in her throat. She truly kept her shit together and I love her for it. If it were me who had worked that damn hard only to be beaten by a sexist, homophobic, bigoted IDIOT then there would be no amount of concealer in the world to hide my puffy eyes and red nose.

It just makes me so angry that a woman who has worked so hard, is so qualified and would give so much has been beaten by a man who mocks the disabled and has no idea what he's doing. He has been bankrupt six times and STILL gets called a business tycoon. He doesn't even respect his own staff, which really REALLY bugs me, respect and kindness starts in your own circle. If he can't do it there then where can he.
And the worst bit? When my own friends, the people I love in America are already feeling fear. Suddenly their marriage might be made illegal, their immigration status at risk, the whole world they have built for themselves is shaken.
Is it fear from others? Are people so blind that just because they themselves aren't gay its terrifying? Can they not see that skin colour isn't the be all and end all? Have they actually ever SPOKEN to these people they fear for their differences? What do they think is going to happen?
She asked the American people to give him a chance. I guess they'll have to.
I had sat there and thought "this is it, a woman elected, this will continue the good feelings that Obama's election bought", turns out I was wrong. Being a woman was just way to bigger step for people to take. I hope that when it's their own daughters, dressed up in their Mum's shirt, talking to their teddy bears, that they don't walk in and say "sorry honey, not you, you're a woman, no presidency for you! I voted for a useless hate figure instead". You've just created a future for your own children that has less in it than the one you're living in now.
I know that I live in England and cries of "but you already have a woman as Prime Minster, whats the big deal about one more female political figure?", i'll tell you why. The people didn't vote for Theresa May. Ok, fine, she'll probably do a good job (don't go there, I have a whole other rant on the Tories). But this just felt....different. It wasn't just a case of Man vs Woman. It was incompetent Man vs competent Woman and the man STILL WON. I know she wasn't perfect, I know there were other concerns about her but she was the lesser of two evils. And people still voted for evil.
Anyway, i'm angry rambling. I just wanted to share my favorite lines from her concession speech:
"It will be painful. It will be painful for a long time"
"And to the young people in particular I hope you will hear this. I have spent my entire adult life campaigning for what I believe in. Sometimes i've had successes and sometimes I have had setbacks, really painful ones....this loss hurts but please never stop believing that fighting for whats right is worth it. It is, it is worth it"
"to all the women, and especially the young women who put their faith in this campaign and in me, I want you to know that nothing has made me more prouder than to be your champion"
"Now, I know that we have still not shattered that highest and hardest glass ceiling but I know they will"
"To all the little girls that are watching this, never doubt that you are are valuable and powerful and deserving of every chance and opportunity in the world to pursue and achieve your own dreams. "
Hillary Clinton.
Thankyou for trying, thankyou for standing strong as he creepy stalked in the back group of your debates, thankyou for staying graceful while he tried to make you look bad in front of the people of American. Thankyou for being a "nasty woman" and for showing the strength and ALL WOMEN have inside them but are sometimes afraid to show.
In honor of you, I hope more women will become, Nasty.
